AN ELONGATED MEMBER, AND A METHOD FOR FORMING AN ELONGATED MEMBER

A stake (1) suitable for use as a fence post comprises a core member (5) of timber located in a bore (4) of a sleeve (3) of polyethylene material with the sleeve (3) shrunk onto the core member (5). The sleeve (3) is formed in a mould in a rotational moulding process. The sleeve (3) is removed from the mould when the temperature of the sleeve is at a temperature of approximately 100°C and the bore (4) is of transverse cross-section slightly greater than the transverse cross-section of the core member (5). The core member (5) at room temperature of approximately 20°C is inserted into the bore (4) of the sleeve (3) while the sleeve (3) is at the temperature between 80°C and 100°C. The sleeve (3) is then shrunk onto the core member (5) by allowing the sleeve (3) to cool to room temperature in a room temperature environment.
