<p>Hydrophobic membranes (2) are secured to either side of a frame (1) and spacer plates (3) containing slots (31, 32) for collecting and transporting drinking water are secured to the outer sides of the membranes on one side and are in close contact with cooling surfaces on the other side. A membrane cartridge for use in a device for purifying e.g. saltwater in order to produce fresh drinking water comprises a central frame, membranes on either side and spacer plates on the opposite sides of the membranes to the frame. The frame is made from an inert material and includes an inlet connection (13) and an outlet connection (14) for circulating relatively warm non-drinking water. The membrane comprises a hydrophobic material and is permanently secured to the side of the frame. The spacer plate is made from an inert material and contains punched slots for collecting and transporting drinking water. The spacer plate is secured to the membrane on one side and the other side is in close contact with a cooling surface having a lower temperature than the circulating non-drinking water.</p> |
