摘要 An LCD(Liquid Crystal Display) device is provided to obtain the LCD device with both good optical characteristics and a thinner thickness at a lower cost. An LCD panel(LPN) holds a liquid crystal layer(LQ) between a first substrate(AR) and a second substrate(CT) disposed to face each other. A first polarization control element(POL1) is provided on an outer surface of the first substrate, which is opposed to a surface of the first substrate holding the liquid crystal layer. A second polarization control element(POL2) is provided on an outer surface of the second substrate, which is opposed to a surface of the second substrate holding the liquid crystal layer. The first and second polarization control elements control a polarization state of light passing therethrough, so that light having the same polarization state as elliptically polarized light is to be incident on the liquid crystal layer. An ellipticity of the elliptically polarized light incident on the LCD panel in a principal viewing angle direction is greater than that of the elliptically polarized light incident in an anti-principal viewing angle direction.
