An apparatus and method for providing a customized announcement in an intelligent network are provided to allow a service user to provide a designated announcement to a specific target terminal or his/her own terminal by combining a fixed announcement number method and a flexible announcement providing method using a VXML(Voice eXtensible Markup Language). An SSP(Signaling Switching Point)(110) receives a service representative number as dialed by a service user from a terminal of the service user. An SCP(Service Control Point)(120) generates a customized announcement, which has been previously registered by the service user, as a VXML script according to the received service representative number, adds the generated VXML script in a user information message, and then transmits the message. An AIP(Advanced Intelligent Peripheral)(130) sets a bearer with a target terminal selected by the service user and transmits the VXML script of the user information message to the target terminal through the set bearer according to an instruction of the SCP(120).
