METHOD AND SYSTEM FOR PROVIDING SHORT BLOCK LENGTH LOW DENSITY PARITY CHECK(LDPC) CODES IN SUPPORT OF BROADBAND SATELLITE APPLICATIONS

A method, an encoder, and a transmitter for supporting transmission of LDPC(Low Density Parity Check) code signals are provided to enhance performance of LDPC encoders and decoders by encoding LDPC codes having short block lengths. A digital communication system(100) includes a transmitter(101) which generates signal waveforms to be transmitted to a receiver(105) via a communication channel(103). The transmitter includes a message source used to generate a digital set of possible messages. Each of the possible messages includes corresponding signal waveforms. The signal waveforms are attenuated or deformed by the communication channel. The receiver uses an LDPC code to compensate for the received signals. The transmitter generates the LDPC codes based on a parity check matrix using a relatively simple encoding technique and communicates with the receiver.
