A straight bar knitting machine comprises one needle bed 26 and a needle bar 20 in which the bar has a first group of needles 21 and the bed has a second group of needles 31 and cam and associated linkages 40 move the latch needles into and out of operation where they knit rib fabric with the first group of needles and in which a latch needle hook bar 61 is provided carrying latch opener hooks 62,and a second set of cams and associated linkages, adapted to function in timed relation with the first set, which place the latch opener hooks into contact with the latches and open them all simultaneously. The latch opener hook tips may be concave as at 62 (Fig. 7) or chisel type 62<SP>11</SP> (Fig. 8). Specification 867, 391 is referred to. |
