PURPOSE: A de-focus compensating method in an optical disk device is provided to automatically compensate for a generated de-focus, in order to carry out an exact focus/tracking servo operation, thereby deleting a worker's operation while manufacturing an optical disk device. CONSTITUTION: When an optical disk is inserted, a microcomputer decides a type of the inserted disk(S10), and sets a hardware offset parameter(S11), then starts measuring an amplitude of a focus error signal(S12). A focus servo is turned on(S13). A tracking error signal generator detects/amplifies a tracking error signal(S14), and automatically enters in a de-focus compensation mode(S15). The microcomputer detects/measures amplitudes of the tracking error signal(S16), and sets a random focus offset value to an optimum de-focus control value(S17). The microcomputer compensates for a gain of the tracking error signal(S18), and turns on a tracking servo(S19). A corresponding operation is carried out(S20).
