PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus which decreases image irregularity or a halftone stripe image due to deformation of a photoreceptor drum caused when a damping material is inserted, or banding due to irregular rotation, which effectively reduces vibration sounds of a charging roller and the photoreceptor drum and vibration sounds when the photoreceptor drum is stopped, which avoids insertion failure of the damping material, and which has excellent productivity, and further, to provide a process cartridge which contributes to minimizing an electrophotographic apparatus and which is simplified for mounting and demounting as an electrophotographic unit. SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus equipped with a contact charging means comprising a charging roller on which a DC voltage and an AC voltage are superposed, exposure means, developing means, transfer means, cleaning means and discharging means disposed around the photoreceptor drum, is characterized in that: a damping material is made to tightly adhere to the inner face of the photoreceptor drum, the damping material having a C-shape cross section perpendicular to the rotation axis of the drum and having the slit width in the C shape as 0.5 to 3% of the peripheral length; and the charging roller contains a damping component.
