PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To promptly switch phase relationships among an HD video signal, an SD video signal, and an external reference signal for an output at a format conversion apparatus and an imaging apparatus for simultaneously outputting the HD video signal and the SD video signal acquired by the format conversion of the HD video. SOLUTION: This apparatus comprises a reset signal generating unit for generating a reset signal from an external reference signal, a second delay unit for delaying the reset signal by a delay amount DL1, a second selector for selecting an output of the reset signal generating unit and an output the second delay unit, a timing control unit reset by the output of the second selector, an imaging unit driven by the timing controlling unit for outputting a third HD video signal, a first delay unit for inputting the third HD video signal to delay it by the delay amount DL1, a first selector for selecting an output of the third HD video signal and an output of the first delay unit, and a scheme translating unit for translating the third HD video signal into a SD video signal during the delay amount DL1 and outputting it.
