PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an editing system for reliably evading non-continuity in sound, and to provide its control method. SOLUTION: When high resolution video sound data D1 recorded in a base material server 3 by five-frame sequence is transferred to data I/O cache parts 15<SB>1</SB>-15<SB>n</SB>, five-frame sequence information in the high resolution video sound data D1 is detected. When editing terminal apparatuses 9<SB>1</SB>-9<SB>n</SB>read the high resolution video sound data D1 from the data I/O cache parts 15<SB>1</SB>-15<SB>n</SB>to perform a special effect processing, editing video sound data D3 with only a special effect part to which the special effect processing is applied is generated, on the basis of the detected five-frame sequence information, and registered in the base material server 3 as a clip file. Thus, non-continuity in sound is prevented in a connection part between a non-special effect part which is originally recorded in the base material server 3 and the special effect part registered in the base material server 3 by the editing terminal apparatuses 9<SB>1</SB>-9<SB>n</SB>.
