PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a suction recovery method of an inkjet recording apparatus which improves suction recovery performance without causing upsizing of the apparatus, and realizes suction operation to allow even many discharging ports to be maintained in a good condition. SOLUTION: Ink is suctioned from the discharging port of a recording head 7 by generating negative pressure in a cap 621 sealing the discharging port. The suction is performed through a first suction step of sucking ink with a first target negative pressure which is comparatively low enough to make ink now unsuitable for recording flow from the discharging port, and through a second step of sucking ink with a second target negative pressure which is comparatively so high as needed for sucking at once bubbles in the discharging port (specially just under the discharging port).
