PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a small-sized stride measuring apparatus capable of placing it into a narrow space. SOLUTION: The stride measuring apparatus 10 has a signal wave output part 40 and a signal wave detection part 62 which are oppositely placed on a cover 28 with a running surface 30 between them in the direction crossing with the fixed direction X for driving the running surface 30. The signal wave output part 40 outputs a light beam L1, and the signal wave detection part 62 outputs ON signals when the light beam L1 is received, and OFF signals when it is blocked. The detector 60 calculates the moving speed based on the difference between a decay time and a rise time of one OFF signal of two OFF signals which continuously are outputted from the signal wave detection part 62, and the feet size of the subject S. The detector 60 calculates the difference of output times (stride time) of the above two OFF signals, and also calculates the strides by a product of the moving speed and the stride time.
