When a magnetic card is inserted from an insertion opening (1b), a card processing device determines that information reading by a first magnetic head (6) is required and sets a sending speed for taking in the card to V1. Then, while the card is sent to the inside (1a) of a body by controlling a motor in a closed loop so as to send the magnetic card with the speed V1 maintained, the information is read from the magnetic card by the first head (6). Further, when an IC card is inserted from an insertion opening (1b), the card processing device determines that information reading by a first magnetic head (6) is not required and sets a sending speed for taking in the card to V2 that is lower than V1.
