Device for damping of vibrations in cables and method therefor

The device has a clamping collar (3) around a bundle of metallic strands (5) of a cable. A hexagonal internal surface has piston type dampers (1) placed around the cable for absorbing vibratory energy of the strands. Each damper has a ball and socket joint (8) articulated with the collar and a ball and socket joint (7) articulated with a ball socket (2) integrated with an anchor tube (4) connected to a construction work. An independent claim is also included for a method of damping vibrations of a cable.
