[Also in Division F2] The superimposed longitudinal edges W1, W2 of a tube T of plastics or a laminate of plastics and metallic foil are fused and bonded together by electrically heated, endless sealing bands 30, 31 in contact with heater bars 32, 33, the exterior band 30 being of flexible steel coated with "Teflon" (Trade Mark) and the interior band 31 consisting of fibre-glass impregnated or coated with " Teflon". The bands are entrained over pairs of rollers, e.g. 35, 36, one of which is driven, and the exterior heater bar 32 is mounted on actuating cylinders for moving the bar out of engagement with the lower race of the band 30. The seam S is cooled by a unit 34. |
