PURPOSE: An apparatus for controlling the traffic signal light and a method for the same are provided to directly control the remaining time display function at the traffic signal controller. CONSTITUTION: An apparatus for controlling the traffic signal light includes a power supplying unit(245), a controller, a switching unit, a plurality of traffic signal lights(243) and a read-back unit(244). The power supplying unit converts the alternative current to the direct current under the control of the external traffic signal controller and supplies the rectified direct current power to each of the traffic signal lights. The controller outputs the control signal related to the turn-on and off under the control of the traffic signal controller. The switching unit selectively operates in response to the control signal of the controller. The plurality of traffic signal lights operates the corresponding LED as a preset color during a predetermined time in response to the switching operation of the switching unit. And, the read-back unit detects the status of the turn-on and off of each LED in real time and transmits the sensed status of turn-on and off to the controller.
