The item for placing under a drinking vessel is made of spongy, squeezable, sheet-form material, which after squeezing can adopt a normal flat, plate-like shape from which fluid has been excluded. The thickness (d) of the item is particularly less than or equal to 5mm, preferably less than or equal to 4mm, and more particularly less than 3mm or equal thereto. The radius (R) of the round item is approximately 5 cm. Both the top surface (1) and the under surface (2) of the item can be written upon with a pen.
