<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ion generator capable of generating a positive ion and/or a negative one with high concentration, and to provide an air conditioner using the ion generator. <P>SOLUTION: The ion generator and the air conditioner using it comprise a dielectric whose relative dielectric constant is at least 10 at 25°C; and electrodes facing each other while the dielectric is sandwiched.
