PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a flat display device equipped with an inexpensively manufacturable spacer which is a self-standing support and applicable even to a large screen. SOLUTION: This flat display device has a display panel whose inside is in the vacuum atmosphere including at least two planate substrates arranged so as to be opposed to each other, and a plurality of spacers arranged between the substrates. Each self-standing type spacer is formed by joining a platy support (2) with a bar reinforcement (3) so as to be perpendicular mutually in each longitudinal direction by a fixing body (4).
