During movement of the chain, the chain links are supported via cross bars on support faces of two pulleys, one of which is a drive pulley. The cross bars have different profiles, dependent upon the shape of the support faces (10) of esp. the drive pulley (9). Due to this, there is point contact (11) between one cross bar (4) and the support face of the pulley, at least during the running-in phase, and line contact (12) between the next cross bar (5) and the pulley support face. The cross bars form parts of inner links (6), which are connected articulated with pairs of parallel outer plates (1). The cross bars are formed by rotary-symmetrical bolts or sleeves. The inner links are one-part cast or forged parts.
