PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To display information such as thumb-nail in an optical disk quickly. SOLUTION: Management information or catalog information such as thumb-nail recorded in an optical disk and the identification information and the history information of the optical disk are stored in a storage means different from the optical disk and when an optical disk is inserted in this optical disk device and in the case where the history information or the identification information which are read out from the optical disk is coincident with the history information or the identification information stored in the storage means, the optical disk device reads out the management information or the catalog information such as thumb-nail stored in the storage means whose access rate is fast and utilizes the information immediately.
