STRUCTURE FOR GIVING FRICTION TO ROTARY SHAFT

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To protect a rotary shaft from hindrance to rotation thereof even in the case wherein the rotary shaft and a contact part of a contact member are brought in fixation with each other.

SOLUTION: In this structure for giving friction to the rotary shaft, the contact part 21c of the contact member 21 installed in a housing (column housing) 13 for rotatably supporting the rotary shaft (steering shaft) 11 is slidably brought in contact with the peripheral surface of the rotary shaft 11 to give friction to the rotary shaft 11. The contact member 21 is structured to be fixed to the housing 13 through a fixture (fixing ring) 22, and engagement of the connecting member 21 with the fixture 22 is released by the predetermined value or more of rotating force so that the contact member 21 can be rotated in relation to the fixture 22.
