摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable own vehicle to pass the preceding vehicle with a good timing in an inter-vehicle distance controlling device by which a constant inter-vehicle distance running is performed while keeping an inter-vehicle distance which is set in advance when there is a preceding vehicle. SOLUTION: When the running speed of the preceding vehicle 40 is at a set vehicle speed or lower, the control of a self vehicle 30 is performed in a manner to follow the preceding vehicle. A target inter-vehicle distance region 50 for controlling the inter-vehicle distance in this case is set ahead of the self vehicle 30 in such a manner that the closer both sides of the vehicle width comes, the shorter target inter-vehicle distance may become as a width equivalent to a lane width is taken as the lateral width with the center in the width direction of the self vehicle 30 as the center in a detection range 31 for an inter-vehicle distance sensor 14. Thus, when the self vehicle is steered, and the center in the width direction of the self vehicle is shifted from the preceding vehicle, the preceding vehicle separates from the target inter-vehicle distance region 50, and therefore, the self-vehicle can be accelerated, and the preceding vehicle can be passed with a good timing.
