<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide material for a photoelectric conversion element providing practical photoelectric conversion characteristics and having high durability and to provide the photoelectric conversion element. <P>SOLUTION: The material for the photoelectric conversion element is represented by general formula (1), and the photoelectric conversion element uses the material for the photoelectric conversion element. In the formula, a ring A and a ring B represent a heterocyclic ring, n1 is 1 or 2, R<SB>1</SB>-R<SB>3</SB>represent each a hydrocarbon group, a heterocyclic group, a halogen atom, or a group represented by general formula (2), and at least one of R<SB>1</SB>-R<SB>3</SB>is a group represented by general formula (2).
