PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus and method capable of preventing nuisance mail from being received. SOLUTION: A server 1 that distributes electronic mail, is capable of receiving a plurality of transmission destinations each having a portion that a user can arbitrarily determine, and when mail is received from a transmission line, a transmission address is extracted from the main in a mail receiving part 3 and collated with an address or an address pattern stored in a table 2a of a processing content storage part 2. When they are not matched, ordinary mail processing to that user is performed but when they are matched, processing such as discarding the mail, redirecting error mail, attaching a date in a predetermined area of the mail or adding an address of the transmission destination, according to characters that the mail has, is performed.
