<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus which shortens the total printing time. <P>SOLUTION: In the image forming apparatus, throughput is altered according to the size of a job to be performed. Alternatively, the throughput is altered according to the count of the pages of one of jobs to be performed. In the case, to alter the throughput, processing speed is altered or a paper interval is altered. According to the invention, the alteration of the throughput depending on the size of the job makes it possible to increase the throughput and shorten the printing time when the job is large, and to keep an FPOT short when the job is small.
