PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cord ply manufacturing method capable of dispensing with the adjustment of a blade contact state in a cutter means and capable of starting the formation of a next cord wound body simultaneously with the takeout of the cord wound body from a forming drum not only to enhance work efficiency and production efficiency but also to achieve automation. SOLUTION: The cord ply manufacturing method includes a process for spirally winding a rubber coated long cord body A around the forming drum 2 to mold a cylindrical cord wound body C, a process for holding the outer surface of the cord wound body C by the grasping means 17 provided on a transfer placing device 5, a process for taking the grasped cord wound body C out of the forming drum 2 to suspend the same from the support means 4 of a ply cutter 3, a process for cutting the cord wound body C suspended by the cutter means 27 of the ply cutter 3 and forming a cord ply CP and a process for feeding out the cord ply CP.
