PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a shield machine for use in construction of a shield tunnel, which positively carries out overhanging of a skin plate for a reamed section during the construction of the reamed section inclusive of a width-expanded section of the shield tunnel, and to provide a method of overhanging the skin plate for the reamed section. SOLUTION: The shield machine is formed of a front trunk 2 and a rear trunk 3 which are separable from each other, an intermediate trunk 4 connected to the front trunk and capable of being housed in the rear trunk. The intermediate trunk has built therein a reaming cutter 5 and a reamed section skin plate 6. While the tunnel is driven by the shield machine, reaming excavation is carried out by separating the rear trunk 3 from the front trunk 2 to advance the intermediate trunk 4 connected to the front trunk 2 from the rear trunk 3, protruding the reaming cutter 5 from a peripheral surface of the intermediate trunk 4 to carry out reaming excavation, and injecting a filler 13 into a cavity 12 formed by the reaming excavation. Thereafter while the filler 13 in the cavity 12 is taken into the intermediate trunk 4, the reamed section skin plate 6 is protruded from the peripheral surface of the intermediate trunk 4 to overhang in the cavity 12.
