PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a high-performance hydrogen detector and a hydrogen detecting system utilizing an optical fiber. SOLUTION: The hydrogen detector is provided with a fiber grating 111 including a grating 112, a substrate 113 for supporting the fiber grating 111 and an elastic member 117 for changing a grating period in at least a part of the grating 112 by providing distortion in the axial direction in at least a part of the fiber grating 111. The elastic member 117 is formed from a hydrogen occluding alloy. Hydrogen can be detected based on a light signal inputted to the fiber grating 111 and reflected or transmitted from the fiber grating 111. COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI
