PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for elucidating the ecological characteristics of a useful alga, Laurencia brongniartii, expected to be largely industrially utilized in future and highly surely producing its seedlings in high production efficiency without being seasonally limited. SOLUTION: This method for producing the seedling of a Rhodophyta alga is characterized by comprising the first step for gathering the Rhodophyta alga and then separating tissue pieces from the alga, the second step for transplanting the tissue pieces into a culture solution, and the third step for controlling the temperature of water in the culture solution and irradiating the culture solution with light from a light source. The culture conditions preferably comprise a water temperature of 20 to 31°C and an illuminance of (photon) of 10 to 100μmol photon×m<SP>-2</SP>×s<SP>-1</SP>, more preferably a water temperature of 24 to 29°C and an illuminance of (photon) of 15 to 50μmol photon×m<SP>-2</SP>×s<SP>-1</SP>.
