PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an imaging apparatus and a method that cannot carry out photographing without the permission of an object or the surrounding of the object. SOLUTION: An imaging section 1 or a voice input section 2 receives information from the object or the surrounding of the object, when the received information is a prescribed video image such as a video image making a V sign, a video image making an OK gesture, or any of other images of the pre-registered face of a person, characters, pictures, and marks, or when the object provides a prescribed voice input such as 'Say cheese' in the case that a photographer utters e.g., 'Say cheese', the imaging apparatus admits photographing, validates a shutter operation and can store the photographed video image to a storage section 5. Thus, so long as the imaging apparatus obtains no photographing permission on the basis of the information from the object or the surrounding of the object, the imaging apparatus cannot store the video image of the object to the storage section 5, and the imaging apparatus cannot store the video image of the object without the permission of the object.
