PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a signal processing method for high reliably judging whether or not an image signal is obtained by generating a plurality of consecutive fields from a common frame on the basis of a prescribed rule. SOLUTION: A difference generating section 31 sequentially generates a difference signal S31 denoting a difference between each field of a video signal S35 and its one-preceding field or its one-succeeding field. A variance calculation section 32 generates a variance of the differences of a plurality of predetermined fields on the basis of a prescribed rule in the difference signals S31.
