Low-density material is made by wetting the surfaces of loose, spheroidal foamed resin granules with a liquid hardenable binding agent and covering the wetted surfaces with a solid pulverulent material to form a dry, loose mass of granules which is either heated to set the binding agent as a shell around each granule, or is subjected to heat and pressure to form a unitary body. In loose form the granules may be used as heat-insulating material for which it has the advantages of being rot-proof, H2O-resistant and easily introduced into cavities. In compressed unitary form the material is used in making constructional elements which are strong and resistant to climatic and chemical attack.
|
