PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an insect such as beetle or stag beetle satisfying one's hobby feeling and imparted with an unconventional added value as a commodity, and to provide a method for patterning an insect for the purpose. SOLUTION: The method for patterning the insect comprises the following steps: (i) Oil at necessary spot(s) on the outer skeletal surface of the insect such as beetle or stag beetle is wiped off, (ii) a desired pattern is drawn on the resultant spot(s) with a paint such as an acrylic paint and the paint is dried to form a paint layer 5, and (iii) the paint layer 5 is coated with a protective coating film-forming agent, which is then dried to form a protective coating film layer 7.
