The production of an optical component for transmitting ultraviolet light with a wavelength of up to 250 nm, comprises forming a cylindrical quartz glass blank with an average OH content in excess of 50 weight ppm. The glass is subjected to primary and secondary heat treatment stages. The second heat treatment comprises warming the glass to 350-800[deg]C for more than 1 hour. The glass average OH content deviates by no more than 20 weight ppm when moving away from the cylinder axis.
