An assembly draws a single- or multi-layer feed of paper, carton or tissue from a roll via a sample cutting station (5). The paper passes along a channel defined on each side by clamp guides (6, 7) incorporating a moving cutting assembly (5). The cutting station may employ rotating serrated discs, non-serrated cutters, water jet knife or laser beam. The clamps are formed by rollers (14, 15).
