1,109,339. Fluid pressure braking system; valves. BENDIX CORPORATION. 9 Aug., 1966 [27 Aug., 1965], No. 35642/66. Headings F2F and F2V. A fluid pressure braking system is provided with a pressure hold off valve 20 between a master cylinder and front disc brakes of a vehicle (Fig. 1, not shown) such that pressure fluid is allowed to flow through the valve to actuate the front disc brakes of the vehicle when the pressure build up in the system is sufficient to actuate rear drum brakes of the vehicle. The valve comprises a casing having an inlet port 56 and an outlet port 68 and interposed between the ports a pressure relief valve allowing fluid flow from the inlet port to the outlet port and a compensating check valve in parallel with the relief valve and allowing flow only in the opposite direction from the relief valve. The relief valve comprises a spring-loaded plunger 30 seating against a diaphragm 60 of a further spring-loaded plunger 32. The spring loading of the plunger 32 is variable. The movements of the two plungers 30, 32 are limited by stops 70, 46 respectively such that on increasing the pressure at the inlet end of the valve 20 the plungers move together until plunger 30 is brought to rest whence the relief valve opens to allow fluid to pass to the outlet port 68. The diaphragm 60 and ports 64 in the plunger 32 act as the compensating check valve. |
