<p>The tray consists of a main body (1) of a thermoformed material, especially an expanded plastic with closed cells, and a polystyrene-based absorbent layer with outer surfaces having closed cells, an inner layer with open cells, and perforations (20) that allow liquids to flow into the inner layer. The main body is shaped to hold the absorbent layer within a cavity (11) by means of retaining lugs (15) or projections, or zones of adhesive. The cavity, forming at least 40 per cent of the tray base, is rectangular in shape with its depth corresponding to the thickness of the absorbent layer - between 2 and 9 mm. The inner surface of the tray also has a gas-impermeable fluid barrier layer (3), e.g. of polymer film, and its rim is designed to receive a transparent sealing film layer of a material that is especially impermeable to oxygen.</p> |
