Potentiometer valve position measurement device generates an output voltage signal (US) to a control unit (4) that has an analogue to digital converter (16). The control unit has a resistance (17) for detecting a cable failure. At the output (12) of the control unit is a resistance (11) that acts as a pull-up resistance between the supply voltage and the signal voltage or as a pull-down resistance between the voltage signal and earth.
