1,165,075. Ammonium salts of polyol sulphates. EASTMAN KODAK CO. 18 Aug., 1967 [19 Aug., 1966], No. 38252/67. Heading C2C. [Also in Division G2] Water-soluble ammonium salts of the formula R-(OSO 3 M) n , where R is the radical of an aliphatic or cycloaliphatic polyol of 2 to 12 carbon atoms, M is the ammonium cation and n is at least 2, are made by heating the corresponding polyol with excess sulphamic acid in hexamethylphosphoric triamide or N,N-dimethyl formamide and isolating the ammonium salt. In Examples, the ammonium salts of the following are made: ethylene glycol disulphate, glycerol trisulphate, dulcitol hexasulphate, mannitol hexasulphate and pentaerythritol tetrasulphate. A solution of a mixed ammoniumsodium salt of pentaerythritol tetrasulphate is made by dissolving the ammonium salt and treating the solution with a polystyrene sulphonic acid ion exchange resin and then with sodium hydroxide. |
