A cosmetic composition contains yellow pigment in the form of bismuth vanadate. Colored composition for topical application, containing continuous hydrophilic phase, contains pigment in form of bismuth vanadate (BiVO4) in amount 0.01-50 (preferably 0.5-25) wt.% of the composition. Independent claims are also included for: (1) the use of the cosmetic composition for care and/or make-up and/or protection of skin, lips, nails and hair against free radicals and appearance of the signs of aging; and (2) process for providing cosmetic protection of skin and lips etc. against photo-induced signs of aging, by applying the composition onto the tissues to be protected.
