The machine comprises a conveyor belt (10) which contains openings (30) with a cross-section allowing a certain size of crops (12) to fall through and which also contains at least one length direction strip (32) containing none of these openings. A crop collection device (16) is located beneath part of the belt. A beam (14) extending in the running direction is located beneath the same part of the belt as the crop collection device in the strip region. A driver is used to press the beam upwards against the belt above it so that latter is accelerated in the vertical direction, throwing the crops up in the air and causing them to land on areas of the belt containing openings.
