The invention relates to chemistry, namely to a process for obtaining ion-exchange resins modified with Bi(III) compounds, that may be used in the substance separation and sorption processes. The process consists in that the cross-linked ionic polymers containing highly basic groups are preliminarily modified with Cr(III) compounds, then they are treated with solution of 0,014...0,016 M Bi(NO3)3 with pH 0,2 in the ratio of 1...2 g of polymer to 100 ml of solution, at the temperature of 55...65oC during 5,0...5,5 hours. In such conditions the bismuth is completely substituted by the chrome ions and the obtained polymer possesses selective properties about the ions.
