Disclosed are compounds of formula (I), wherein: R1, R2 and R3 are H, OH, or OCH3 and R4 is a sugar moiety other than a morpholinyl substituted sugar moiety. Also disclosed is the use of at least one 5-imino-13-deoxy anthracycline derivative in the preparation of a medicament for the treatment of cancer, an autoimmune disease, or an immunodeficiency disorder in a subject in need thereof.
