摘要 PURPOSE: A steering shaft of a vehicle is provided to remove clearance and noise generated by a combination structure of upper and lower shafts, to cut down the manufacturing cost, and to absorb shock energy transmitted through a steering system to a driver. CONSTITUTION: A steering shaft of a vehicle is composed of a hollow upper shaft(1) and a lower shaft(2) combined to a hollow portion of the upper shaft. A groove(1a) is formed in the hollow portion of the upper shaft and frictionized with the lower shaft to absorb shock energy when the lower shaft is collapsed by a collision. The upper and lower shafts are serration-combined to each other. An anti-separation cap(3) is disposed at the end of a combined portion to prevent separation between the upper and lower shafts.
