The food product (4'), e.g. a cake mix or brioche dough, is designed to be sold in a container (1) such as a can, in which it is cooked by the customer, for example by baking in an oven (6). The can is sealed with a lid, e.g. with a ring-pull opening, and can have its base (3) made in a similar way to facilitate removal of the cooked product. The inner wall (10) of the container has a layer or coating of a non-stick material such as wax paper or grease to prevent the cooked product adhering to it, and when it is filled sufficient room is left for the product to expand on cooking. Its outer surface can carry a label, logo or information, including cooking instructions.
