An organic dye optical recording medium capable of recording and reproduction by blue laser of shorter wavelength. In particular, an optical recording medium comprising a substrate and, superimposed thereon, a recording layer capable of information recording and reproduction by laser, wherein the recording layer contains a compound of the general formula: wherein each of R1 to R6 independently represents a hydrogen atom or a substituted or unsubstituted linear or branched alkyl; each of k and n is independently an integer of 0 to 2 provided that 0 <= k+n <= 4; each of l and m is independently 0 or 1 provided that 1 <= l+m <= 2; and each of the ring A and ring B independently represents an aromatic ring having or not having any arbitrary substituents provided that the arbitrary substituents may be bonded with each other so as to effect ring formation.
