PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To establish copyright protection and to effectively utilize electronic data needed for the copyright protection.

SOLUTION: A communication system is mainly intended to send and receive audio visual data in home, and comprises a transmission device 2 and a reception device 3 each connected to a home network 1. Since the other communication device (the reception device 3 or the transmission device 2) is allowed to be registered only when a response can be acquired within a predetermined time after a device ID registration request is made, the audio visual data can be transmitted only between communication devices existing within a limited area, thereby establishing the copyright protection of the audio visual data by simple processing.
