PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and an apparatus for reducing the bandwidth required to transmit image data. SOLUTION: The method and the apparatus are provided for reducing the bandwidth required to transmit the image data to a display device. The image data represent a plurality of pixels defining the image to be displayed in the display device, are transmitted in a data stream, and are supposed to be in the order of predetermined pixel components. The method is composed of a step to receive the image from the data stream, and a step to transform the image data by selectively holding some image data in a memory so that the display device can access it, but discarding other of the image data.
