PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an industrially advantageous method for producing a cyano compound, especially the method for producing the cyano compound excellent in optical purity and yield. SOLUTION: This method for producing the cyano compound is characterized by performing the reaction of a carbonyl compound with a nitrile having at least oneα-hydrogen atom in the presence of a ligand and a metal compound expressed by general formula (3): (wherein, M is a copper atom or silver atom; and X is an alkoxy, an alkyl, an aryl or an anionic residue).
